Niger - Tales of Resilience

Our first quick film on this important subject - Nigerians’ efforts to counter violent extremism in their communities. We follow rapper Ali Master, the multi-talented creator and musician, from Niamey to Diffa to capture the spirit of resilience in the Sahel. Made with the help of a great Nigerian film production team and three inspiring subjects along the way. We hope to return to Niger someday for a fuller exploration…

A Tribute to diego rincon

Diego enlisted in the Army after the terrorist attacks of September 11th, determined to defend the country where his parents came after escaping Colombia. Two years later he was in Iraq serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. On March 29th, he got caught in a suicide bomb attack at a military checkpoint north of Najaf. That day, he died for his new country before becoming a citizen. Only later, on the day of his funeral, did his naturalization papers arrive at his parents’ home in Conyers, GA.

 
 
 
 

LETTERS FROM YASMEEN

When there’s not one educated woman in a very traditional village who is trained to teach young girls, how can they learn? Where there is almost no way for would-be students to leave their home compounds, how can they go to school? We explore an innovative idea to provide girls a basic education in the most conservative parts of Western Pakistan.

 
 
 

SITES OF RECOLLECTION

The work of four contemporary installation artists is explored, but not seen, in a film that examines the images and ideas artists bring to their work. Produced to accompany an innovative exhibition, “Sites and Recollections: Four Altars and a Rap Opera”, at the Williams College Museum of Art.

 
 
 

Tashilham

In a New York City loft, an artist and an anthropologist consider a remarkable piece of art. The work is a serial diptych with a Tibetan name that translates as “fortunate journey”. The artist is renowned 20th-century American painter, Irving Kriesberg. His interlocutor and friend is the therapist Judith Gleason.
