The Story

Liberal, Kansas is a movie about a place where a conspiracy happened, a conspiracy to blow up

an apartment building full of Somali refugee workers in the next town over.

There are no Somalis in the story -

because the bombing never happened and no Somalis knew anything about the plan.

Turns out the rest of the town didn’t know anything about it either.

Only three ordinary white guys, a girlfriend, and a wanna-be hero.

Even after the FBI announced the arrests, no single person had the full story.

How those 3 middle-aged guys ended up in jail for the rest of their lives for kicking around an idea

they didn’t exactly have,

and what that’s done to their friends and families and the town that had no clue -

we pieced that together after the fact.

It’s a story true to the High Plains, a place where mistrust of the government runs deep.

It sweeps back 50 years, from the Farm Crisis to the roots of January 6th.
